Instructor Biography

Steve Farley is a former Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.  He entered Active Duty in February 1987 and left the Marine Corps Reserve in June 1997.  During this time his primary occupational skill was that of a Combat Engineer, which gave him his background in explosives. In 1990 he was assigned as an instructor to one of the Marine Corps finest schools in Security and Anti-Terrorism, the Marine Corps Security Forces Training Center in Virginia.  There he was instrumental in instructing personnel from the ranks of Private thru Colonels in the subject matter of Anti-Terrorism and Security measures for High Risk Personnel.  Due to his experience with explosives, he updated the School’s training in the subject of Bomb Threats and Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.Ds).  This published curriculum has been used since 1991 by the Marine Corps Security Forces Training Center.  His other duties included instructing U.S. military personnel in Security measures and Combat Firearms.

Steve’s first accreditation as a Combat Pistol and Shotgun instructor came from the program in which the legendary author, editor and founder of Gunsite, former Marine Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper designed himself.  He has been responsible for teaching the art of Combat Pistol and Shotgun techniques to the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines.  Steve has trained some of our allies such as the British Army and was the personal Combat Pistol instructor for the Commandant of the Marine Corps for the Country of Moratania.

Shortly after leaving Active Duty, Steve joined the Lubbock Police Department in June 1994.  He has served as a Field Training Officer, a Detective in the Juvenile Investigations Division and a member of the SWAT Team.  Steve currently holds his Advanced Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas. He is also licensed in the state as an Instructor in Police Topics and Firearms and holds an instructor certification by the National Rifle Association for the Patrol Rifle.  Steve has competed in the Texas Police Games and medaled in the Individual and Team Combat Pistol Competition.   His current assignment is with the department’s Crime Scene Unit.   Since leaving the Military, Steve has continued teaching on the topic of Terrorism to Law Enforcement and Military personnel.
